# The RSPCA's Strangest calls for Help

**By Megan Balmer** · 2018-01-23

For many January is slow, depressing and ultimately just very dull! So in order to cheer it up a little bit the RSPCA has released their most comic call out of 2017!

For example, the RSPCA Inspectors were called to a field after a farmer's elderly neighbour called about 4 ewes stuck in a hedgerow and was concerned because they has been there for two days, when the RSPCA Inspectors arrived.... They did not find 4 ewes but a runaway bunch of balloons!

And then there was the time when they got several cals from multiplie concerned people about the blindfolded horse, who was being transported, in a trailer with their legs tied to the trailer..... and was made of plastic!

Or when a people called to report a dead horse in a field only for it to be a bathtub and a scrap piece of carpet!

Even when a delivery man contacted the RSPCA to express his concern for a dog he reported as being "immobile" and "covered in frost", which then turned out to be a painted statue of a collie!

And the terrified lady who'd called horrified by the giant spider she'd seen under the stairs... later found out it was her son's toy!

Oh! and don't forget the heron with the broken leg stuck on top of a back garden fence, which luckily turned out to be a stone figure!

Dermot Murphy from the RSPCA stated:

"When you’re working with animals, you expect the unexpected - but some of the calls we get are downright bizarre! And while it’s a bit of light relief in a generally tough and emotional job, there’s a serious message here too. We appreciate that most people mean well but we would urge callers to stop and think before asking us for help."
