# How to Measure a Rug by Horseware

**By Helen Best** · 2020-01-07

**Ensure Comfort**

The fit of your rug is extremely important to ensure maximum comfort for your horse, prevent rubbing and rug slippage.

**Measurement**

As horses of the same height at the point of wither come in a variety of shapes and sizes, it is useful to take certain measurements of your horse that do not solely depend on height. Horseware Ireland developed a tried and tested technique which is now the industry standard.

**From Chest to tail**

Using a soft measuring or tailor tape, measure from the centre point of the chest across the point of the shoulder and to the centre of the tail.

_Subtract 10cm_ from the resulting measurement and then consult a Horseware Ireland size guide.
