Top Tips for De-Shedding your dog

Dogs as brilliant as they are, there is one thing that can deduct from their awesomeness: The hair. Or more accurately the hair that covers everything in your house and your favourite pair of black jeans. It's a nightmare that never seems to end and no matter what you do, you still seem to have a layer of hair everywhere in your house. So how do you try and lessen the shed?

Issues behind Shedding

Well before you try all the latest products have you thought about any underlying medical problems that could be causing excessive shedding? Dogs with bad allergies and fleas can itch and scratch a LOT, this can lead to an excess of hair loss.

Pop to your vets to make sure your dog doesn't have an underlying allergy issue and if you see your dog scratching more than usual be sure to check them for fleas and use a flea prevention medication every 8 weeks.

In addition to allergies and the possible case of fleas, it is also a good idea to try and check your dogs for skin diseases which could be affecting both the skin and the coat. If you suspect your dog does have an underlying skin issue, we recommend taking them to the vets and getting it sorted as soon as you possibly can to prevent further issues.

Preventing and Removing Loose Hair

There are a few different ways to try and prevent and remove loose hair from your dog, ranging from specialised shampoo to specially designed brushes.

One of the easiest ways to prevent hair being everywhere is to give your dog a good brush with just a standard pet brush daily to catch most of the loose hairs and, hopefully, dramatically lessen the amount of loose hair laying all around your home and clothes.

shampoo

If brushing your dog daily, hasn't helped maybe try some special "De-shedding shampoo" It is specially formulated to reduce shedding by laying down the hair neatly and remove any of the excess hair from underneath the coat, meaning your dog is just left with a shiny and practically loose hair free coat! I ♥ Pet Head has created a two-part "de-shedding formula". First wash with the "De Shed Me" Shampoo and then Rinse with the "De Shed Me" rinse, leaving a beautiful smelling coat and a gorgeous shine.

Now if only there was a perfect solution to your de-shedding solution..... Oh but wait there is! If there is one product we recommend to keep shedding to an absolute minimum in the most hassle-free way: It's the Furminator. Proven to reduce shedding by up to 90%, it is definitely the most effective way to remove the loose hair without cutting or damaging the healthy coat.  It is a painless and effective tool that can be used on dogs of any size of fur length and even come in cat and horse edition so all your beloved pets can be rid of all the pesky loose hair.
