Earth has been lucky enough to have enough horses for over 50 million years! They originated in North America, spreading to Asia and Europe. They became extinct in North America around 10,000 years ago but were reintroduced in the 16th century. There was a lot of extinctions in North America, Horses survived by crossing the Bering Land Bridge once connecting Alaska and Siberia, enabling them to cross into Asia spreading West.
For a small dog-sized animal, to what we have now, let's have a look at how they've evolved in those 55 million years...
Over the course of 55 million years horses have changed dramatically, they've definitely had an impact on the world and peoples hearts!
