How to Measure a Rug by Horseware
January 07, 2020 1 min read 0 Comments

Ensure Comfort
The fit of your rug is extremely important to ensure maximum comfort for your horse, prevent rubbing and rug slippage.
Measurement
As horses of the same height at the point of wither come in a variety of shapes and sizes, it is useful to take certain measurements of your horse that do not solely depend on height. Horseware Ireland developed a tried and tested technique which is now the industry standard.
From Chest to tail
Using a soft measuring or tailor tape, measure from the centre point of the chest across the point of the shoulder and to the centre of the tail.
Subtract 10cm from the resulting measurement and then consult a Horseware Ireland size guide.

Your deducted length will correspond with the correct size for your horse, with the rug sitting perfectly on the horse’s hindquarters
